Armenia-US-EU meeting raises regional security concerns - Analyst

A trilateral meeting between Armenia, the United States, and the European Union, held in Brussels on April 5th, has sparked concerns about the potential escalation of regional security threats, said Political scientist Ilyas Huseynov, in a statement to AzVision.az.

Ilyas Huseynov noted that major regional powers have expressed their reactions to the meeting.

Ilyas Huseynov stated that the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement interpreting the Armenia-USA-EU meeting as a potential catalyst for geopolitical confrontation in the South Caucasus.

"The European Union and the United States appear to be pursuing separate agendas in the South Caucasus. He cited Armenian media reports which claimed "Nicole dragged Yerevan into a new war in Brussels," despite pre-meeting assurances that the peace process with Azerbaijan would not be affected", Huseynov highlighted.

Huseynov further suggested that the meeting could lead to a further straining of relations between Armenia and Russia. He argued that Armenia's attempts to manoeuvre between the West and Russia would be ultimately unsuccessful. He emphasized the importance of Armenia acting under the peace agenda proposed by Azerbaijan and fulfilling its obligations as the only path towards a lasting solution.
